Ebony London

Greetings! I'm Ebony London.

Q. What’s your earliest memory of yourself in connection to art?

A. I remember in Kindergarten, dipping my hands in red paint and pressing my hands down on paper. I remember looking at my paint covered hands and understanding that my hands can create art!

Q, What is one piece of advice you’re glad you didn’t follow when starting your art/artist journey?

A. Don’t quit your job! So many people, all with great intentions, told me to remain employed and keep Art as a hobby. I simply couldn’t! I was severely depressed and full of anxiety! A friend of mine told me “Well working for yourself, you will still experience depression and anxiety!” I replied, “That’s my point! If I’m going to experience depression and anxiety anyway, it might as well be on my terms!”

Q. What made you take a risk and become an entrepreneur?

A. I realized that most of the decisions I had made regarding my life were made out of fear. I became an entrepreneur because I was exhausted of being afraid! Being an Entrepreneur has shown me the power of my intelligence. Prior to being an entrepreneur, 90% of the decisions I made regarding my life, my finances, my energy and my time were made with emotions. Making emotional based decisions rarely equate to progress. It wasn’t until I became an entrepreneur that I begin to see progression in all areas of my life.

Q. What inspires you, that may surprise us?

A. Trees! I experience and see a lot when I am among trees. It blows my mind how large they can become and how large and deep their roots must be to accommodate their size. I get inspired by the shape of the branches, the texture of the bark. The colors change the leaves experience in the fall inspires my paint color palette often!

Q. If you had three wishes, what would they be?

A. My first wish would be to redesign the entire school systems. I would focus on teaching children how to think, not what to think. The book “Think & Grow Rich” would be broken down in an understandable language starting in middle school. In Elementary school, children would primarily focus on their own creatively and Art.

My second wish would be to build more creative studios similar to Tyler Perry’s Studio. He created “Hollywood” for people of color! I don’t think many people understand how much his studio will change cinema forever!

My third wish would be to require a new guidelines and standard for the media. Most of us suffer anxiety and depression because we believe every FEELING that the media reports. We also forget that the stories that are on the news, make it to the news, because they are rare occurrences. The media specializes in fear. They understand that people who are afraid are easier to control.

Q. What is a random/fun fact regarding your ‘former’ work life vs your art life/passion now?

A.  I use to work 40 hours a week when I was employed and I was miserable. I now work 80 hours a week and I am the happiest I have ever been in my life! I’ve learned doing less of what you hate doing, will not increase your happiness. However, doing more of what you love doing, will increase your happiness.

Q. What fear did you experience and how did you overcome it?

A. Deciding that the skills, gifts and talents you possess will be the service & or product you will offer the world in exchange for food, shelter, clothing and entertainment (money) is one of the bravest things a person can do! As an entrepreneur, you don’t conquer fear, you just get use to it. You get so use to fear being present that you begin seeing fear as opportunities to grow and evolve.
