I am not the model. I am the designer.

When it comes to fashion, I am very plain. I don’t keep up with the latest brands and styles and I own only two dresses. However when I paint my figures I turn into a fashion designer! After looking at one of my paintings where the figure wore a beautiful, revealing gown, a friend asked me, “Ebony, are you living vicariously through your paintings?” I thought about her question and concluded, "I’m not the model. I’m the designer."- eLL

Subject: Mona and Lisa are sisters who transformed the standard of beauty around the world. When they attempted to entered the fashion world as models, dark skin and kinky hair were not welcomed. Pale skin and thin straight hair dominated. One evening, after receiving another rejection from a modeling agency, Lisa said to Mona, “I’m tired of trying to convince this world to see the beauty in our dark skin and kinky hair. If they don’t want us in their world, let’s create our own world and send them an invitation to join us.” Within two years, Mona and Lisa had changed the world of fashion and business. They opened a modeling agency which welcomed all skin tones and hair textures. They also stated their own clothing line, appropriately named Mona Lisa, creating the most elegant gowns that have been worn by royalty and celebrities all around the world.
